Sail Away Marine Art | Original Art by Veny

Sail Away is a piece reminiscent of this nation's history, when maritime travel was taken place on large, sail driven ships just like this. Ships such as these would be gigantic, and driven primarily by the wind. It may have oars to help when the sea was calm, and would have a very large crew of sailors to mind the sails and row the oars.

Marine Art Sail Away

The day this ship was captured on canvas on its voyage on the sea would be a great day for sailing. The wind billowing in the sails and the lean of the craft are beautifully recreated. Just the folds in the sails themselves are amazingly detailed, and painstakingly painted.

The attention to detail in this piece is incredible. Each line connects to a sail, just as it should, and there are not any missing lines. Each fold of fabric created by a wind we can sense but not see is shadowed just right, with the right amount of attention paid to create just enough shadow and depth. The ocean shows small, gentle waves, created by the same wind. A small wake appears wear the bow of the ship is breaking through the water, and can be seen breaking on one side, where it leans further into the waves.

The sky in the background provides a wonderful background, with clouds varying in height and distance from the vessel. This allows us to see how far the ship has come from the background, and gives a break from a monotonous flat blue sky. The reflection of the boat is not clearly defined, as it too is being broken up by the gentle waves. The varying shades of blues in the water suggest a very deep portion of the ocean, with the only the captain and crew knowing for certain.
